Naked Warriors Amos Ch.2
Human strength is useless in the hands of an angry God. Even the mighty soldiers will flee naked and defenseless.

Imagine the smug look on the faces of the Israelites as the Prophet Amos delivered God's message of judgement against the six surrounding nations. In Chapter One we heard the "doom-message" levied against Damascus, Gaza, Tyre, Edom, Ammon, and Chapter Two begins with more doom against Moab.
And then..... Amos drops God's hammer on his own people, Judah and Israel. Good leaders accept responsibility for what happens on their watch. Amos lived in the Southern Kingdom, but was sent to the Northern Kingdom to proclaim God's judgement.
This was a time of prosperity and good times and that's usually when people turn their backs on God. The people had oppressed the poor and perverted justice. Moab has an interesting history. Moab was the son of an incestuous relationship between Lot and one of his daughters. They fled Sodom and Gomorrah which were destroyed by God for gross perversion. Lot's daughters got him drunk and slept with him, probably thinking it was there only opportunity to have children. It's possible they thought the whole world as they knew it had been destroyed.
Moab was also the place where a King sent women to tempt the Israelites into sexual sin and idolatry. On the bright side, Ruth was a Moabitess who followed Naomi after her husband died saying, "Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. Do not persuade me to leave you or go back and not follow you." Ruth 1:16. That's a great example of God using anybody from anywhere who want to follow Him.
