Conquering Corner Cutting
“Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties,
all your worries, all your concerns,
once and for all] on Him,
for He cares for you affectionately
and cares about you watchfully. [Ps. 55:22.]”
1 Peter 5:7 AMPC
Today's podcast/video is from a lesson plan for 7th & 8th Graders. During our lesson we discovered God's math plan in Leviticus 19:9 "And when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field to its very corners, neither shall you gather the fallen ears or gleanings of your harvest."
According to Levitical Law, the farmers were commanded to not cut or harvest the corners of their property. They would not harvest the whole of their property for the good of the whole community. They subtracted from their harvest to give an addition to those in need thereby multiplying the prosperity of the community. That's math God's way!
The definition of “Cutting Corners” according to the Cambridge Dictionary is: to save money or time when doing something by not including some parts, actions, or details, so that the result is not as good as it could be.
Synonyms for “Cutting Corners” according to Thesaurus .com include: conserve, cut down, scrimp, skimp, cut back, be frugal.
Cutting Corners is not always a bad thing if it’s part of Plan B when Plan A isn’t possible. Here’s the most important consideration when face with being forced to cutback:
Don’t cut corners on the intentions of your heart.
WHAT IS YOUR GOAL?
Your Goal is Defined by your Purpose and Intention. They are the Adhesives that hold your Plan together. Here’s an example from planning a special meal for 180 people at a free food pantry.
Plan A included a chili dinner for 180. Due to many circumstances, the possibility of not having enough chili-cookers led to the temptation of cutting corners. Those possibilities multiplied with less volunteers being available.
While anxiety over the situation is a natural human response, a pause, (a be still and know God moment,) which led to prayer - a means of casting your burden onto God’s shoulders.
“Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you; He will never allow the [consistently] righteous to be moved (made to slip, fall, or fail). [I Pet. 5:7.]” Psalm 55:22 AMPC
The Goal for this outreach is to help people know how Worthy they are To Be Loved. To help make them Feel Special. To Share with them the Joy of Knowing Christ. To Create an Experience where the Peace of Christ, through the Works of Our Hearts causes Overflowing Thankfulness. Instead of Subtracting all chili due to not having enough chili-cookers, we’ve urged the few that we do have to press on.
We will Engage in Addition by adding grilled hotdogs. We will Believe In Multiplication by the Spirit to help us Accomplish what our Hearts Set On Christ set out to do in the first place.
